About Us

Roll for initiative...

The Moonshine Adventure Company was born after a weekend away playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends.

Walking through the beautiful medieval city of York, with stories of our party’s hijinks still fresh in our minds, we mused. Wouldn’t a roleplay game set in your actual location be fun? A D&D retreat about clerics in a ruined abbey? Pirates at a seaside beach holiday? Sci-fi in an abandoned bunker?

We both have young families and live in different cities, so finding the time to play TTRPGs in person is not easy. But when we do get together with our party, nothing else matters but whatever shenanigans we’re up to (and whatever chaos ensues). For us, this time is sacred.

We want to share these two experiences: the wonder and imagination of an evocative location, together with the sanctuary of a holiday devoted to gaming.

Our Game Masters

  • Eve Byers (She/They)

Eve is a GM, writer, actor, commission mini painter, dicemaker, 3D sculptor and 'general-purpose craftweasel' based in London, where they GM at Arcadia Games several days a week. Eve loves to weave stories about whimsical fantasy with their players (ask her about duck racing...). She especially loves GMing for people new to TTRPGs - the goosebumps of seeing someone discover this incredible hobby are hard to beat!

Their background is in the disability rights sector, and as a neurodivergent person they are passionate about intersectionality and making gaming together accessible to as many people as possible. You can buy or commission from Eve here, or play D&D with her at Arcadia.

  • Zack Fortais-Gomm (He/Him)

Zack is a producer, Game Master and podcaster with a passion for collaborative storytelling. He can be found behind-the-scenes and on-mic for incredible actual play series like Oxventure, Realms of Peril & Glory and many more.

  • Lou Fryer (They/Them)

Lou is a freelance TTRPG writer and editor of over a decade, as well as an actual play performer and permanent cast member on the podcast Of Dice and Them. They are a rule-of-cool GM and player, and lean strongly into whimsy, farce and theatrics. You can find them playing games all over the internet, on socials @iamloufryer, or on their linktree.

  • Michelle Kelly (She/Her)

Michelle is an actor, voice actor, game designer and Actual Play performer based in Yorkshire. She is passionate about collaborative storytelling and believes a GM's greatest strength is in empowering her players to make strong choices and follow their wildest instincts!

Michelle has appeared on a range of TTRPG Twitch and YouTube channels, including GMing Paint the Town Red for Science & Sorcery's Pride in STEM event and GMing both Blades in the Dark and Mappa Mundi for EUphoria, a channel dedicated to uplifting diverse voices across Europe, where Michelle is also a staff member.

You can learn more about Michelle's work on TTRPGs here and download her games here.

  • Liv Kennedy (She/Her)

Liv is a writer, professional GM and one third of D&D, pop culture and diversity podcast Three Black Halflings. She has played in numerous UK actual plays, including guest appearances on Oxventure and No Rolls Barred.

  • Maddy Searle (They/Them)

Maddy is a GM, TTRPG performer, sound designer and podcast producer. They are the host of the solo/duet TTRPG podcast A Game of One’s Own, and a core cast member of the anthology actual play podcast Realms of Peril and Glory. They have also designed some silly one-shot TTRPGs, such as Vampire Cowboys and Heresy High, which can be found on itch.io

  • Adam Taylor (He/Him)

As an avid board gamer, a long-time participant in amateur theatre, and a fan of all things fantasy, sci-fi and other, RPGs are the perfect meeting of Adam’s interests. Having been introduced by friends to GURPS and then D&D, he jumped in with both feet and has been reading, playing, running and writing RPGs at every opportunity since.

Adam runs games regularly at conventions across the UK and with friends. He is happiest running collaborative, improvisational games, inspiring creativity in players and then weaving their ideas into the narrative.

Our Values

  • Yes, and…

We take people at face value and empower them to play in their own way.

We know people play TTRPGs for different reasons, so we bounce ideas off players, rather than pushing our own idea of fun.

  • Roles not rules

The games systems we use are there to support player actions, not limit them.

We love watching beginners learn and grow in confidence, and we relish the challenge when players creatively unravel our carefully laid plans!

  • Commit to the bit

We don't take ourselves too seriously, and we don’t let our dignity get in the way of a good story.

We are enthusiastic fans of our players and our GMs. We want them to feel comfortable expressing themselves and their characters.

  • Welcome to the table

We're here to help people build compelling stories together, so we create safe spaces and welcome diverse parties.

We remove barriers to participation. When we get it wrong, we listen and we learn.

Who We Are

  • Sam - a smiling white man with a beard and short hair wearing a light blue shirt, standing in front of a plain blue background.

    Sam Lockhouse (He/They)

Sam runs the business side, looking after customers, GMs and the so-called ‘real world’. A former History teacher and civil servant, he believes in fun, inclusivity and pushing paper. He will buy you a coffee if you let him talk at you about Moonshine for 20 minutes.

  • Tom - a smiling white man with a beard wearing glasses in a room with plants and sunflowers.

    Tom Lock (He/Him)

Tom is Moonshine’s creative brain. He writes our Adventures, designs beautiful things and paints lots of tiny plastic creatures. A board gamer, crossword setter and copywriter, Tom loves nothing more than a good puzzle with vicious wordplay.
